Friday Fodder: Stop Everything You’re Doing Edition

shezow-character-shezow_570x420Stop everything you’re doing and set your DVR to record The Hub’s new series titled SheZow!.  It premieres tomorrow, June 1, at 12:30 p.m. EDT/9:30 a.m. PDT.

Learn more about the series here.

“Twelve-year-old Guy is an extreme dude who inherits the power ring of his deceased aunt – the amazing superhero SheZow! The ring gives him villain-battling super powers, but was meant to be worn by a girl and the result is absolutely she-larious!

A lovable yet mischievous tween who hates responsibility, Guy Hamdon is suddenly forced to save the world as the legendary female superhero SheZow. Trapped inside a crazy female superhero costume with big hair, high heeled go-go boots and she-mazing superpowers like mega strength and she-riffic speed, Guy “plays” the part of heroine on his way to becoming a super man.

Once Guy Hamdon utters the magic words, ‘You go girl!’ he becomes SheZow…and it’s ‘No more Mister Nice Girl!’”

View the amazing photos here.

“BOY is a series of portraits of my son who enjoys “dress-up.” Although the project seems to be about a boy’s love for princesses and fairies, it’s more an inquiry into what little boys are allowed to be before the world changes them and molds them into some notion of what it means to be a man in our society.”

Seriously people, the photos moved me.  I could see C.J. in them.  They are beautiful and captivating, but more than that they show the perfect innocence that boys like C.J. sparkle because of.  I can’t stop looking at the photos.

Sort of reminds me of the anime Ranma 1/2, where the main character, Ranma Saotome (a boy,) fell into a cursed pool while training with his dad in China, and now, he turns into a girl whenever cold water hits him. He has to get into hot water to turn back into a boy.

His dad also fell into a cursed pool while training- his dad turns into a panda from cold water LOL

The photos from BOY are beautiful and heartbreaking all at once. The innocence in that child’s beautiful face and the knowledge that he will be harassed by others as he grows up makes me so sad. I’ve seen it happen again and again. Thank you for sharing this and other stories like yours. I hope that these stories will enlighten others and help to heal what is ailing this world.

My genderqueer 18 year old (originally my son but now my daughter) told me about SheZow yesterday. Very cool. And “Boy” is just exquisite

  4. Louise says:

I saw something about SheZow the other day. I LOVE the idea, but I hope it’s handled positively, rather than as a joke that he “turns into a girl”

  5. Jw says:

Thanks for all the links. I enjoyed them all and wouldnt likely have come across them on my own. I love that there is an increasing amount of gender related articles, stories, etc out there. And i love that there seems to be an increasing number of allies in our world. These allies are people who are openminded and willing to be supportive of our little people who are bravely challenging gender stereotypes.

I’m looking forward to Shezow! the theme song is catchy for sure! And I know CJ is a big fan of Monster High, so have him check out http://www.everafterhigh.com – its a new series from Mattel featuring princesses! there are 3 little movies to watch and looks like tehre will be toys as well.

  7. Fantastic! I’m checking out everything!

  8. Carrie says:

You can already preview the pilot episode of SheZow on the Hub website!! We did yesterday and my six year old LOVED it! One thing, though: SheZow is clearly “Guy” in drag, he doesn’t actually become a girl, and people laugh at SheZow once they find out it’s really Guy in a dress. But nevertheless the show was a complete HIT with my own “CJ” 🙂

  9. Leilani says:

Wow! Now I’ve seen everything. 🙂
